Stavanger Art Museum is an art gallery that presents both contemporary and historical works, with a collection that includes Norwegian and international art from the 19th century onwards. The museum has a significant collection of Hertervig's art, which is the largest outside Norway. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, special activities such as Sunday tours are arranged, which give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the art and exhibitions.
The museum also emphasizes art for children and young people, and offers free admission for children and students. Visitors can also access the Jan Groth archive, which contains an extensive collection of works and documentation. In addition to art exhibitions, film screenings are arranged, including documentaries and art films, which provide a broader understanding of the role of art in society.
