What is flyttevask, and how much does it cost?
What a move-out clean covers, what it costs and who must do it.
Short answer
Flyttevask is a thorough move-out clean of a home, and Mittanbud says the job is often done for a fixed price of NOK 4,500 to 8,500. Tenants must leave a rented home washed and in the agreed condition, and any company you pay for the cleaning must be approved by Arbeidstilsynet.
Why
- Unless otherwise agreed, Mittanbud lists washing all surfaces, floors, walls, ceilings and windows, the inside of all drawers and cupboards, and appliances as part of a flyttevask.
- The Rent Disputes Tribunal (Husleietvistutvalget, HTU) says that if nothing else is agreed, a tenant must return the home tidied, cleaned and in the same condition as at handover, but is not responsible for normal wear.
- The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority (Arbeidstilsynet) says it is illegal to buy cleaning services from businesses that are not approved, and this also applies to private persons.
Details
Mittanbud says the floor area to be cleaned affects the fixed price most, and that bathrooms and kitchens take extra time. Its list also includes vents, drains and fans in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room, and cleaning behind and under items that are not fixed. HTU recommends a joint walk-through of the home when the tenant moves out, and a move-out protocol.
Tip
Take photos when you hand over the keys, especially if you and the landlord disagree about cleaning or damage, as HTU advises.
What may differ
The NOK 4,500–8,500 range is Mittanbud's figure from its own marketplace, not official statistics, and the final price depends mostly on the floor area.
