Where can you rent a van to move house in Norway?
Rental firms, van sizes, age limits and the licence you need.
Short answer
You can rent a van for moving house from car rental firms such as Avis and Europcar, which offer vans in Norwegian cities and at airports. Europcar rents vans by the hour, day or month, and an ordinary class B licence covers vehicles with a permitted total weight of up to 3,500 kg.
Why
- Avis lists vans from a VW Caddy with 3.4 m³ of cargo space to a Mercedes Sprinter with tail lift and 19 m³, and calls its VW Crafter group well suited for moving loads.
- Avis says you must be at least 19 to rent most of its vans, and drivers under 25 pay a fee.
- The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) says a class B licence covers a vehicle with a permitted total weight of up to 3,500 kg; Avis's largest box truck needs a C1 licence.
Details
Europcar says you can choose hourly, daily or monthly rental, or just overnight, and pick up and return the van at different places. Avis adds a one-way fee that depends on the vehicle type and the drop-off point. If a trailer is enough, Circle K rents trailers at several of its stations; bring the car's registration certificate (vognkort) as well as your own licence.
Tip
Compare the cargo volume in m³ before you book; Avis shows the cargo space and payload for each van group on its website.
What may differ
With a class B licence you can tow a trailer with a permitted total weight of up to 750 kg, or a heavier one if the car and trailer together weigh no more than 3,500 kg.
