Can you fly with a dog in the cabin on Norwegian, SAS or Widerøe?
Weight limits, carrier sizes and fees on the three airlines.
Short answer
Norwegian, SAS and Widerøe all take small dogs and cats in the cabin, as long as the pet and its carrier weigh no more than 8 kg together. Book early, as spaces are limited. Fees in October 2026: Norwegian NOK 550–750 each way online, SAS NOK 750, and Widerøe NOK 550 online on domestic flights.
Why
- Norwegian allows two pets in the cabin per flight, in a carrier no bigger than 43 x 31 x 20 cm, and on flights to and from Svalbard only dogs.
- SAS takes dogs and cats older than 8 weeks in a carrier of up to 40 x 25 x 23 cm, with one carrier per traveller holding up to two pets of the same species.
- Widerøe carries at most two pets in the cabin per flight, one animal per carrier, and cannot guarantee space if you book less than 72 hours before departure.
Details
On SAS the carrier must fit under the seat in front of you, and the pet must stay in it for the whole flight. SAS asks you to add the pet when you book or no later than 24 hours before departure, while Norwegian says each flight has only a set number of animal spaces. Fees at the airport are higher than online: NOK 680–800 on Norwegian and NOK 750 on Widerøe domestic flights.
Tip
Add the pet to the booking right after you buy the ticket, since Norwegian and Widerøe each take only two pets in the cabin per flight.
What may differ
SAS does not take pets in the cabin to or from the United Kingdom, and Widerøe does not carry pets on its UK routes to Bergen and Stavanger. Pets arriving from countries outside the EU and EEA must enter through Oslo Airport Gardermoen or Storskog and go through the red channel, according to Tolletaten.
