Short answer

You can stay in treetop cabins in many parts of Norway, from Brumunddal and the Oslofjord in the east to Woodnest in Odda and Engeset in Nordfjord. Visit Norway says Norway's first treetop cabins are in the forest in Ringsaker, an hour and a half north of Oslo, where seven cabins offer stays all year round.

Why

  1. At Tretopphytter Oslofjord in Nykirke you sleep 100 metres above sea level and 8 metres above the ground, with a view over the Oslofjord.
  2. Woodnest in Odda has four huts of 15 square metres, each with a toilet and four beds, and the two newest also have a bathtub and a double bed.
  3. The sites are small: Lauv Tretopphytter in Feiring has two cabins, Engeset Trehytter at Sandane three and Tretopphyttene in Ringsaker seven.

Details

Other treetop stays on Visit Norway's list include Fosstopp in Hedalen, where the cabins hang in pine trees six to eight metres above the ground, two hours from Oslo, and Almatoppen in Steinkjer, a treehouse for two with a view over Snåsavatnet. Woodnest's views over Sørfjorden also make it a base for exploring Hardanger.

Tip

Check the facilities before you book, as they vary: Almatoppen has electricity but no running water, while the Woodnest huts have their own toilets.
