Which car rental company is best in Norway?
The main companies, what to compare and the costs that come later.
Short answer
No company is officially the best, so compare price, pickup point and terms between firms such as Avis, Hertz, Sixt and Budget, which rent cars at many Norwegian airports. Book early for summer, as Visit Norway advises, and check the licence rules: some firms require that you have held your licence for at least a year.
Why
- Avinor lists Avis, Hertz, Budget, Sixt and Enterprise as car rental companies at Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes.
- Visit Norway strongly recommends booking a rental car in advance, particularly in the summer season.
- Under Sixt's Norwegian terms the renter pays tolls, road pricing and parking, plus VAT and any margin added by the company.
Details
At Oslo Airport all rental companies are in parking zone P10, level U2. Avis says toll charges usually reach the customer a few weeks after the rental ends, and Sixt charges NOK 20,000 for filling the wrong fuel. Compare the total cost, including tolls, fuel and insurance, not only the daily rate.
Tip
Read the terms on tolls, fuel and the excess before you book, since these costs come on top of the daily price.
What may differ
Minimum age and how long you must have held a licence vary between firms, so check the terms of the company you choose.
