How do I pay the studded tyre fee in Oslo, Bergen or Trondheim?
Prices, payment apps and websites, and the fine for not paying.
Short answer
Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim charge NOK 35 a day, NOK 450 a month or NOK 1,400 a season for studded tyres on a car, paid online or by app. Oslo uses piggav.no and the Bil i Oslo app, Bergen the Parkering i Bergen app and Trondheim SmartPark, and the 2026/2027 studded tyre season runs from 1 November to 4 April.
Why
- Oslo charges an additional fee of NOK 750 for driving without a studded tyre permit, for all vehicles.
- In both Oslo and Bergen the fee applies in the whole municipality, even if you are only driving through.
- Bergen accepts a valid permit from Oslo or Trondheim, and Oslo accepts permits from Bergen and Trondheim.
Details
In Oslo and Bergen the permit is electronic and linked to the registration number, so nothing needs to be shown in the car. In Oslo, day permits are also sold from machines at several petrol stations, but not by SMS or Vipps. In Bergen, one-day scratch cards are sold at Bunnpris in Nygårdsgaten 89 and St1 Haukås. In Trondheim, you buy through the SmartPark app or SmartPark on the web.
Tip
Buy the permit before you drive into the city, as the fee applies anywhere in the municipality; a day permit lasts 24 hours from purchase.
What may differ
Vehicles over 3,500 kg pay double: NOK 70 a day, NOK 900 a month and NOK 2,800 a season. Vehicles with a disabled parking permit, motorcycles, trailers and emergency vehicles are exempt in Oslo and Bergen, and in Oslo you only need a permit on days you actually drive with studded tyres.
