How much do groceries like milk and bread cost in Norway?
Shelf prices for milk and bread, and how to pay less.
Short answer
At the online grocer Oda, a litre of light milk costs NOK 19–22 and the cheapest coarse loaf costs less than NOK 16. Most loaves on Oda cost between NOK 30 and 60. A 1.75-litre carton of TINE light milk costs NOK 31.90, which is cheaper per litre.
Why
- Oda lists TINE light milk with 0.5 per cent fat at NOK 19.40 per litre and the 1 per cent version at NOK 21.40.
- The cheapest coarse bread on Oda is Kneipp grovbrød from Korn Bakeri, 750 g for NOK 15.90, which works out at NOK 21.20 per kilo.
- Organic light milk from Rørosmeieriet costs NOK 20.10–22.10 per litre, while lactose-free TINE light milk costs NOK 29.90.
Details
These are Oda's online prices. Prices in other chains, such as Kiwi, Rema 1000 and Coop Extra, can differ. Simple basics are usually the cheapest choice: in Oda's bread range, a plain Kneipp loaf costs less than half of most other loaves.
Tip
Compare the price per litre or kilo on the shelf label, because larger packs, such as 1.75-litre milk, can be cheaper per unit.
