Why

  1. The figures come from SSB's statistics on reported offences, updated on 10 June 2026, which cover offences registered by the police and the prosecuting authority.
  2. Property theft accounted for 116,387 reported offences in 2025, almost the same as the 116,986 cases in 2024.
  3. The total rose from 278,833 reported offences in 2021 to 348,508 in 2025, an increase of about 25 per cent.

Details

The exact national rate was 62.3 reported offences per 1,000 inhabitants in 2025. Reported violence and abuse rose from 45,438 cases in 2024 to 47,366 in 2025. The statistics only include offences that reach the police, so crime that is never reported is not counted.

Tip

UK travel advice warns of a small risk of petty theft at airports and railway stations in and around Oslo, so keep bags and phones close there.
