Where can I check the weather forecast in Norway?
Yr forecasts, weather warnings and forecasts for fjords and mountains.
Short answer
You can check the Norwegian weather forecast on Yr, a service from NRK and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute that gives 10-day forecasts for places across Norway. Yr also has a 21-day forecast, a radar map and weather warnings, and Varsom shows warnings at yellow, orange and red levels.
Why
- Yr is a collaboration between NRK and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and covers more than 10 million locations worldwide.
- The daily table on Yr covers the next 10 days, and the separate 21-day forecast shows expected and possible temperature and the probability of precipitation.
- Varsom, run by NVE with MET and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, shows warnings for rain, wind gusts, snow, ice on the road and other hazards.
Details
For a fjord, search for the village on Yr, for example Geiranger or Flåm, and open the hourly view for the day of your trip; Yr also has a sea and coast forecast. Yr's mountain pass pages show road reports, forecasts and webcams for roads such as E16 Filefjell and Fv. 55 Sognefjellet. The 21-day forecast gives a range of possible temperatures and precipitation rather than one value, so treat it as a trend.
Tip
Check the forecast again on the morning of a hike or boat trip, and in winter look at avalanche warnings on Varsom too, as Visit Norway advises.
What may differ
At sea, MET's text warnings are no longer published on met.no but on Værio, which mainly covers Norway and the Norwegian Sea.
