How to choose: time, place and what you want to train

  • The chain gyms in and near the centre give access from 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning on weekdays.
  • The 24-hour gyms are out in the districts: in Landås and in Fyllingsdalen.
  • The specialised centres each have their own offer: a climbing wall and squash, martial arts, and training for adults over 40.
  • Most of the gyms are part of a chain with several centres, and this page shows one of each.

The chain gyms are for those who want to train on their own close to work or their place of study. Two of them are in the city centre, on Torggaten and Lars Hilles gate, and the third is on Damsgårdsveien, south of the centre. The gym on Torggaten is on the 4th and 5th floors, according to its card, and the city-centre gym on Lars Hilles gate lists childcare and a sauna.

The two 24-hour gyms are at Mannsverk in Landås and on Krokatjønnveien in Fyllingsdalen. Both state access around the clock, every day (the gyms' websites, read on 5 October 2026), and in Landås you get in with the members' app. The card for the gym in Landås mentions free parking nearby, and the gym in Fyllingsdalen has a separate running room.

The third group is for those who want more than machines. The centre on Helleveien in Sandviken has a climbing wall, squash, a sports hall and a sauna alongside the strength and cardio rooms: it is run by the student welfare organisation but is open to everyone. The martial arts club on Fjøsangerveien, near the Danmarksplass light rail stop, trains boxing, kickboxing and ju jitsu and has a strength area for its members. The centre on Hagerups vei is reserved for adults over 40.

This page is a selection: in the directory, the category Fitness & Sports Centers has more than two hundred cards. More about the city is on the Bergen page, and guides on other topics are under Rating of popular places.

Membership: commitment, trial sessions and age limits

  • Two of the chain gyms state membership with no commitment period.
  • In Landås the prices on the gym's website apply to a contract with a 12-month commitment.
  • Three of the gyms offer a free trial session or trial week.
  • Age limits vary: 40 years at one centre, 16 and 18 years for some martial arts classes.

The gyms have different rules on commitment periods. Two of the chain gyms, on Damsgårdsveien and on Torggaten, state membership with no commitment. At the 24-hour gym in Landås, the prices on the gym's website apply to a contract with a 12-month commitment (read on 5 October 2026), so read the terms before you sign up.

If you want to try before you decide, three of the gyms have an offer. The 24-hour gym in Fyllingsdalen and the centre for adults over 40 mention a free trial session in their cards, and the martial arts club states a free trial week on its website. In Landås new members get an introductory session with a personal trainer, according to the card.

Age limits are rarely stated in the cards. The centre on Hagerups vei has a minimum age of 40. At the martial arts club the limit is 16 for boxing and for adult ju jitsu and 18 for Kali Sikaran, while children and teenagers have classes of their own. The gym in Fyllingsdalen has a separate course for teenagers aged 12 to 16. For the remaining gyms we found no age limit on the pages we read.

Prices are not shown in the cards: they are on the gym's website. The three chain gyms in and near the centre have no phone number in their cards, so contact there goes through the website. If you sign up for a group class, a cancellation deadline may apply: the gym in Fyllingsdalen states two hours.

Opening hours: access, staffing and weekends

  • Access hours and staffed hours are two different things.
  • Around the clock: the gyms in Landås and Fyllingsdalen.
  • 5:00 to midnight every day: two of the chain gyms.
  • The martial arts club follows its class timetable and is listed without weekend hours.

At a gym there is a difference between when you can get in and when staff are at work. The centre in Sandviken gives access every day from 6:00 to 22:00 but is staffed from 8:00 on weekdays and from 9:00 at weekends. The centre for adults over 40 is open from 9:00 to 21:00 most days and until 18:00 on Fridays, with unstaffed periods in the middle of the day from Monday to Thursday and for large parts of the weekend. The times are taken from the gyms' websites (read on 5 October 2026).

Two of the chain gyms give access from 5:00 to 24:00 every day. The city-centre gym on Lars Hilles gate has shorter days: from 6:00 to 22:00 Monday to Thursday and until 21:00 on Fridays, from 9:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays and until 20:00 on Sundays.

The two 24-hour gyms state access around the clock, all year. When they are staffed is not stated on the pages we read. The martial arts club does not keep ordinary opening hours: training follows the class timetable, and the card shows no times on Saturdays and Sundays.

The times in the cards do not always match the gyms' own: for two of the centres in the third group the weekend times differ. In that case the time on the gym's website is the one that applies.
