Distances from Arkaden: the centre, Klosterøya and south to Borgestad
- Arkaden on Bruene: the only centre on this page right in the town centre.
- Klosterøya: just over 800 metres south of Arkaden.
- Ulefossvegen, Gulsetvegen and Fritidsparken: 1.3 to 2.4 kilometres away.
- Kjørbekk, Nenset, Tollnes and Borgestad: 3.6 to 5.3 kilometres to the south.
In Skien one of the ten centres sits in the middle of town, on the second floor of the Arkaden shopping centre on Bruene. From there it is just over 800 metres to Klosterøya, 1.3 kilometres to Ulefossvegen, 1.8 to Gulsetvegen and 2.4 to Fritidsparken on Moflatvegen. The distances are as the crow flies between the map points.
The other five lie to the south. Kjørbekk is 3.6 kilometres from Arkaden, the two at Nenset four, and the two southernmost, at Tollnes and Borgestad, a little over five. At Nenset the two are neighbours on Porsgrunnsvegen with about 45 metres between the map points, and Tollnes and Borgestad are just under 600 metres apart.
Several centres mention parking. At Arkaden and at Klosterøya you park free for three hours; at Klosterøya you enter your registration number on the tablet at the reception. The centre on Gulsetvegen, the centre at Tollnes and the centre for motor-assisted training at Nenset state free parking, at Tollnes with six marked spaces to the right of the entrance.
If you are looking for a sports hall, a yoga studio, a padel court or a personal trainer, they are in the same catalogue section, Gyms. Other towns are collected under Leisure and family.
When the door is open, and when staff are at work
- 5 am to midnight every day: Gulsetvegen, Kjørbekk and Tollnes.
- 5 am to 11 pm: Arkaden, where there is no staffed reception.
- 6 am to 11 pm with a key fob: Ulefossvegen.
- Klosterøya follows the reception hours and closes at 8 pm on Saturdays.
Three of the four centres for solo training state 5 am to midnight every day, on their websites on 7 October 2026: on Gulsetvegen with a card or app, at Kjørbekk with a key card, and at Tollnes. At Arkaden the hours are 5 am to 11 pm, and you get in with the chain's app. Only one of the four states staffed hours: at Kjørbekk, 9 am to 9 pm Monday to Thursday and 9 am to 7.30 pm on Friday.
Where there are group classes, the day is shorter. Klosterøya is open 6 am to 10.30 pm Monday to Thursday, until 9 pm on Friday, 8 am to 8 pm on Saturday and 9 am to 9 pm on Sunday. At Fritidsparken members get in with an app 6.30 am to 10 pm on weekdays and until 8 pm at weekends; the reception is staffed 8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm Monday to Friday and for three hours on each weekend day. On Ulefossvegen the key fob works 6 am to 11 pm; the reception is open 9 am to noon Monday to Friday and 4.30 pm to 7 pm Monday to Thursday, and at weekends it is unstaffed.
The CrossFit centre at Borgestad states 6 am to 11 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am to 10 pm at weekends. The centre for motor-assisted training has staffed hours 7 am to 11 pm every day and says it is open outside them as well. The website of the chain centre next door would not open on 7 October 2026. If the catalogue card shows a different time from the centre itself, the centre's website is the one that counts.
Classes, childcare, age limit and trial sessions: what the centres state
- Most group classes: Klosterøya with 14 types, and Fritidsparken with two studios.
- Childcare: Klosterøya, mornings every day and afternoons Monday to Thursday.
- Age limit of 16: the centre on Gulsetvegen.
- Children and teenagers from school year 1 to 10: the CrossFit centre at Borgestad.
Klosterøya has the widest range of classes: 14 types, among them yoga, pilates, cycling, running, dance and separate senior classes, plus a sauna. Childcare there is open 8.45 am to 11.30 am on weekdays and 9.30 am to noon at weekends, and also 4.15 pm to 7.45 pm Monday to Thursday. The centre at Fritidsparken is on the second floor, right above the swimming complex, and has two studios with yoga, pulse, strength, cardio, running and cycling. On Ulefossvegen the timetable lists tabata, dance mix, step and circuit training, and the centre runs lifestyle courses.
Arkaden has no group classes, but the chain lets members use its main centre on Fridtjof Nansens gate, which has a cycling studio, a running studio, four group studios, a sauna and childcare. The centre on Gulsetvegen states 730 square metres with strength, cardio, a functional zone and physiotherapy. You must have turned 16 to join there, and a guardian must consent until you are 18; children under 16 may not train, not even with their parents.
In the south of town the formats are different. At Nenset you train in motorised machines in a room without music; the centre is at street level, about 20 metres from the nearest bus stop. The CrossFit centre at Borgestad has groups for school years 1 to 4, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10, and physiotherapists on site.
You can try first in several places. The CrossFit centre and the centre on Gulsetvegen arrange a trial session by e-mail, and the centre for motor-assisted training gives a free trial session by appointment. Drop-in exists at Klosterøya and at Kjørbekk, and on Gulsetvegen as a short-term membership bought online. Eight days free at Fritidsparken and 14 days at Tollnes were offers on the websites on 7 October 2026 and may be gone when you read this.
Questions and answers
Three of the centres here: at Klosterøya, at Fritidsparken and on Ulefossvegen. The CrossFit centre at Borgestad also trains in classes, with a timetable and booking.
At Arkaden, on Gulsetvegen, at Kjørbekk and at Tollnes. The last three stay open until midnight, Arkaden until 11 pm.
We found none that states it explicitly on its website on 7 October 2026: the longest stated access is 5 am to midnight. One chain centre at Nenset is listed as open around the clock in its catalogue card, but we could not confirm that.
At Klosterøya: in the morning every day and in the afternoon Monday to Thursday. The chain at Arkaden states childcare at its main centre on Fridtjof Nansens gate.
Not on Gulsetvegen: the limit there is 16, and a guardian must consent until you are 18. The CrossFit centre at Borgestad, on the other hand, has its own groups from school year 1 to 10. At the others the age limit is in the membership terms.
Five of the centres state it: three hours free at Arkaden and at Klosterøya, and free parking on Gulsetvegen, at Tollnes and at the centre for motor-assisted training at Nenset.

How we make this page
The fitness centres on this page are chosen by the NorgeGuide editors. Payment affects neither the selection nor the order. The order within the groups is free and says nothing about quality.
