Can you refill or swap camping gas bottles in Norway?
Buying propane, LPG stations and filling your own bottles.
Short answer
Propane is sold throughout Norway, but you can fill your own gas bottle only at LPG stations that permit it, while petrol stations such as Circle K sell AGA bottles. All Circle K stations stock 5 and 10 kg composite bottles. Neither Circle K nor the 2026 camping guide says that foreign bottles can be exchanged.
Why
- The 2026 camping guide from NHO Reiseliv and NAF Camp says gas and propane can be bought throughout Norway and refers travellers to AGA and myLPG.eu.
- Circle K sells propane from AGA, and all its stations have 5 and 10 kg composite bottles with a click valve.
- The myLPG.eu map lists 64 LPG stations in Norway and marks those where filling of external gas bottles is not permitted.
Details
Circle K also lists an 11 kg steel bottle with a click-on valve, and many stations stock other bottle types, so ask at your station. myLPG.eu lists Bayonet and Dish connectors at Norwegian LPG stations, and its filters show stations that sell or exchange bottles and stations that allow refillable Safefill or GasBank bottles. The map is independent and does not own any stations.
Tip
If you bring a refillable bottle, check each station on myLPG.eu for its connector and whether it allows filling of external bottles. If you buy an AGA bottle in Norway, check that your regulator fits its click valve.
What may differ
If your motorhome has an LPG system installed outside Norway, myLPG.eu notes that servicing it can be harder to arrange locally.
