What is Camping Key Europe, and do you need it in Norway?
What the card gives you and what Norwegian campsites ask for.
Short answer
You do not need Camping Key Europe in Norway: the campsite rules in Norway's 2026 camping guide only ask you to register on arrival and show ID on request. The Norwegian camping portal camping.no sells it as a benefit card. It gives discounts at participating campsites, includes liability insurance and can be shown instead of your passport at reception.
Why
- The rules in the 2026 camping guide from NHO Reiseliv and NAF Camp say you must report your arrival at reception and show ID on request.
- The Norwegian camping portal camping.no lists Camping Key Europe as a benefit card (fordelskort) that you can order online.
- ADAC, one of the clubs that issue the card, says it gives discounts at more than 2,000 campsites and motorhome sites across Europe and is sold in 17 countries.
Details
The card's third-party insurance covers a travel group of up to six people for damage at the campsite. Camping Key Europe says the card serves as alternative proof of identity, so you do not have to leave your passport at reception. The Norwegian camping guide itself does not mention the card.
Tip
Before you buy the card, ask the campsites on your route whether they give a discount on it. NAF members get 10% off ordinary nightly rates and 5% off cabins at the 190 NAF Camp sites if they mention their membership when booking or on arrival and show it.
What may differ
If you continue to Sweden, campsites in Svensk Camping use the card or a digital Camping-ID at check-in, and the Camping-ID is only valid in Sweden.
Common misconception
You need a camping card to stay at campsites in Norway.
What actually happens
The campsite rules in the 2026 Norwegian camping guide ask you to register on arrival and show ID on request. Camping Key Europe is an optional benefit card.
