Do hotels in Norway include breakfast?
The Norwegian breakfast buffet and when it costs extra.
Short answer
Breakfast is often included in the room rate at Norwegian hotels, especially at the large chains, but not always, so check your booking. Visit Norway says even mid-range and budget hotels typically offer large breakfast buffets. Citybox Oslo, however, does not include breakfast, and Smarthotel includes it only when you book directly.
Why
- Visit Norway says a good breakfast is often included when you stay at one of Norway's largest hotel chains, and at several hotels it is part of the room rate.
- Visit Norway gives the average hotel room price in Norway as NOK 1,725 per night for a double room that includes breakfast.
- In Twinings Best Breakfast, which Visit Norway calls Norway's unofficial hotel breakfast championship, a jury assesses more than 400 hotels.
Details
Buffets typically include Norwegian cheeses, and several hotels also serve smoked salmon, pickled herring, cured meats and local specialities, alongside yoghurt, muesli and fruit. Smaller hotels and guesthouses may have a narrower selection, but Visit Norway notes that the quality is still good.
Tip
Check that your rate says breakfast is included: at Smarthotel, for example, breakfast is included when you book on the hotel's own website.
What may differ
Budget hotels with self-service check-in may not serve breakfast: Citybox Oslo says breakfast is not included, but you can buy it at restaurants connected to the lobby.
