Short answer

You can rent a bike for a day in Oslo from Oslo City Bike, which has a three-day pass for NOK 119, or from Viking Biking in the centre. With the city bike pass each ride can last up to three hours. Viking Biking rents bikes all year, with helmet and lock included.

Why

  1. Oslo City Bike's Discover Oslo pass costs NOK 119 for three days, with up to three hours per trip, and longer rides cost NOK 15 per extra 15 minutes.
  2. Pay As You Go has a one-time NOK 3 fee, then NOK 8 to unlock and NOK 1 a minute on a regular bike, or NOK 2 a minute on an e-bike.
  3. Viking Biking, listed by Visit Oslo at Nedre Slottsgate 4J, rents bikes year-round seven days a week, with a helmet and lock included and a minimum age of 13.

Details

Oslo City Bike is open all year, but has fewer bikes with studded tyres in winter. The Ruter app can also find and pay for Oslo City Bikes, e-bikes and electric scooters. Viking Biking fits its standard bikes with studded winter tyres, and its e-bikes are not available from November to April.

Tip

For a day with several rides, do the sums first: at NOK 8 per unlock plus NOK 1 a minute, a few long rides on Pay As You Go can soon cost more than the NOK 119 pass.

What may differ

E-bikes cost extra on the city bike passes: NOK 8 to unlock and NOK 1.90 a minute for the first 15 minutes, then NOK 1 a minute.
