What do I do if my car has been towed in Oslo?

Where the car is, what you pay and what to bring.

Short answer

If the City of Oslo has towed your car, check the city's online service and collect it at Verkseier Furulunds vei 41, which is open around the clock. Towing a passenger car costs NOK 7,900, plus NOK 400 for each day in storage and the parking fine itself. Bring a physical driving licence, ID card or passport.

Why

  1. Bymiljøetaten (the City of Oslo's Agency for Urban Environment) runs a check service that shows whether a car has been moved or towed, the pick-up address and the prices.
  2. The towing fee is NOK 7,900 for a passenger car, NOK 7,400 for a motorcycle, moped or e-scooter and NOK 9,900 for a vehicle over 3,500 kg.
  3. If unpaid control sanctions add up to more than NOK 6,000, you must pay them to Økonomi- og forvaltningsetaten before you can collect the vehicle.

Details

You can pay by card or cash when you collect the vehicle. Digital driving licences and digital ID cards are not accepted at the pick-up point. If you think the towing was wrong, you can complain within 3 weeks from the day the vehicle was fined and towed. If you do not want the car back, you can ask for it to be scrapped by emailing [email protected] with the registration number and a copy of your ID; the scrapping deposit then goes towards the towing costs.

Tip

Collect the car as soon as you can, because the storage fee of NOK 400 is added for every day it stays there.

What may differ

A car can also be moved rather than towed, and the same check service shows this. The city puts up signs when cars have to be moved, so if you park along a municipal road, you must check for new signs at least once a day.
