Does Oslo have a metro?

Short answer

Yes, Oslo has a metro called the T-bane, with five lines and 101 stations, and the whole network lies in Ruter's fare zone 1. Sporveien runs the trains, Ruter plans the service, and the metro carries more than 106 million passengers a year. The same tickets work on buses, trams and ferries.

Why

  1. Ruter publishes timetables and line maps for metro lines 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
  2. Sporveien, which operates the metro, lists 101 metro stations and more than 106 million passengers a year.
  3. Ruter states that the entire metro network is in zone 1, so an adult single ticket for NOK 46 covers any metro trip.

Details

Ruter's tickets are valid on its buses, trams, metro and ferries and on Vy trains in Oslo and Akershus, and you can change between them within your zones while the ticket is valid. A single ticket lasts 60 minutes from activation. Tickets are not sold on board the metro, so buy one in the Ruter app or at a Narvesen, 7-Eleven or Mix kiosk before you travel.

Tip

Activate your ticket in the app before you enter the station's control zone, because Ruter's rules require a valid ticket from the moment you board.

What may differ

The metro does not run all night: Ruter tested night metro on lines 2 and 3 on Saturday nights in November and December 2025 but decided not to continue, so night buses cover the weekend nights instead.
