When is parking free in Trondheim?
How to read the sign, Sunday rules and 2026 street prices.
Short answer
In Trondheim you only pay for municipal street parking during the hours shown on the sign, and Sundays and public holidays are free unless the sign shows red numbers. Fee hours and prices vary by zone, and in Midtbyen the first hour costs NOK 56. Two-wheeled motorcycles and mopeds park free in MC spaces.
Why
- Trondheim kommune says a parking sign applies only in the hours written on it: black numbers for Monday to Friday, black numbers in brackets for Saturday and red numbers for Sundays and public holidays.
- The municipality states that fee hours and prices vary between zones, so you must follow the signs where you park.
- The 2026 price list sets NOK 56 for one hour, NOK 123 for two and NOK 202 for three in Midtbyen and the inner centre, and NOK 48 per hour in the outer centre.
Details
You can pay with the municipality's SmartPark app, with EasyPark or Apcoa, by text message or at a machine. Indoor car parks run by Trondheim Parkering AS are an alternative: Torget P-hus costs NOK 56 an hour, with a daily maximum of NOK 390.
Tip
Look for red numbers on the sign before you leave the car on a Sunday; if there are none, the fee does not apply that day.
What may differ
These rules cover public parking with blue signs. Trondheim Parkering AS uses black signs with white text on its private areas, and those car parks have their own prices and hours.
