Can I use a Skyss, AtB or Brakar ticket on the train?
Where local bus tickets are valid on trains, and where they are not.
Short answer
Skyss tickets are valid on the Vossebanen and Arna local trains, AtB tickets on trains in Trondheim's zone A, and of Brakar's tickets only the youth ticket. Brakar's youth ticket covers Vy lines 12 and 13 within Buskerud, but not trains to Bergen or Kristiansand. Outside these areas you need a separate train ticket.
Why
- Skyss's regulations from 1 July 2026 list single, 24-hour and season tickets and the 30-day youth ticket as valid on trains in Vestland, on Vossebanen and the Arna local trains.
- AtB says a zone A ticket covers trains between Skatval, Hegra and Hovin, with free transfers between bus, tram, on-demand transport and train within the zone.
- Brakar's price regulations, revised on 27 January 2026, say a valid youth ticket also covers local trains and short-distance regional trains within Buskerud.
Details
The Skyss youth ticket cannot be used on the regional and intercity trains between Bergen and Oslo or on Flåmsbana. On AtB, a single ticket bought in the AtB or Entur app costs the same, and for a single trip that leaves zone A you buy the whole ticket in the Entur app. Brakar sells holders of a Vy season ticket a discounted bus season ticket for trips to or from a station on their train ticket.
Tip
If your trip goes beyond the local zone, buy the train ticket in the Entur app, which brings together public transport across Norway.
What may differ
Dogs and bikes on trains in Trondheim's zone A follow SJ NORD's terms and prices, and AtB's family weekend discount does not apply on trains. Brakar's free onward travel does not apply to journeys to or from trains.
