Are there night buses in Oslo?

Night bus nights, N lines, tickets and the metro at night.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

Yes, Ruter runs night buses in Oslo and Akershus on the nights to Saturday and Sunday, with most lines starting around 01:00. They run until the morning routes take over, and night lines have an N after the number, such as 1N, 2N and 3N. You pay with an ordinary Ruter ticket. The metro usually does not run at night.

Why

  1. Ruter states that its night buses run on the nights to Saturday and Sunday, and that most lines start at around 01:00.
  2. Night lines are marked with an N after the line number, for example 1N, 2N and 3N, and some regular lines also run a reduced night service without the N.
  3. Ruter tested a night metro on lines 2 and 3 on the nights to Sunday in November and December 2025, but chose to spend the resources on improving night buses instead.

Details

All night bus departures are listed in Ruter's journey planner and app, so you can check the time from your stop before you leave. An adult single ticket for zone 1 costs NOK 46 and is valid for 60 minutes. If you buy the ticket on board the bus, adults pay NOK 20 extra.

Tip

Check your last connection home in the Ruter app before you go out, and buy the ticket in the app to avoid the onboard surcharge.

What may differ

The N lines do not run on the other nights of the week, so check the last departure from your stop in Ruter's journey planner.
