Is there park and ride in Oslo?
Commuter parking, day parking and how to pay.
Short answer
Yes, Oslo has park and ride (innfartsparkering), and at Grorud railway station Bane NOR has 62 commuter spaces for train passengers with a valid period ticket. The station has 80 spaces in all, and the other 18 are day parking at NOK 60 a day. You pay in the Bane NOR Parking app.
Why
- The City of Oslo's parking map has a separate layer for park and ride, described as parking where you continue your trip by public transport.
- Bane NOR's commuter parking is only for people with a valid train period ticket, and a 30-day agreement costs NOK 100, NOK 250 at city-price stations or NOK 400 in the parking garages at Lillestrøm and Asker.
- At Grorud station the commuter spaces cost NOK 250, and trains from there run to Lillestrøm, Oslo, Asker and Drammen.
Details
You buy the commuter parking agreement in the Bane NOR Parking app or online, and there are also 7-day agreements, for example NOK 35 for 7 days of standard commuter parking. Spaces marked as fee-paying are not covered by the agreement, and the signs in each car park apply. Grorud station is on the Hovedbanen line and also has a bicycle stand.
Tip
If you travel on a single ticket, use the day-parking spaces and pay for the day in the app, since the commuter spaces require a valid period ticket.
What may differ
The City of Oslo notes that its parking maps are only a guide and can change, so check the signs on site.
