What is residents' parking (beboerparkering) in Oslo, and what does it cost?
Prices for 2026, who can apply and how.
Short answer
Residents' parking (beboerparkering) lets Oslo residents park without time limit in their zone, and an inner-city permit costs NOK 3,850 a year for a petrol or diesel car. In 2026 hybrids pay the same, electric cars pay NOK 1,300, and permits in the outer-city zones cost nothing. The permit does not reserve a space for you.
Why
- In the inner city (Frogner, St. Hanshaugen, Gamle Oslo, Grünerløkka and Sagene, zones A to E) the 2026 price is NOK 3,850 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, NOK 1,300 for electric cars and NOK 1,925 for motorcycles and mopeds.
- In the outer-city zones F to K (Ullern, Nordre Aker, Alna, Stovner, Bjerke and Vestre Aker) the permit costs NOK 0 in 2026.
- To apply you must be registered (folkeregistrert) at an Oslo address with residents' parking and own or co-own the vehicle, with exceptions for students, commuters, military personnel, rental cars and company cars.
Details
You can apply all year through the City of Oslo's online customer portal, with the car's registration number ready. If you are registered at an address in the zone and are the registered owner, the application is approved automatically; otherwise it takes up to 14 days. The permit is electronic, lasts one year from payment, can be paid monthly and cancelled at any time. With it you can park in all spaces marked for residents' parking in your zone, but you must check for new signs at least once a day.
Tip
If you are not the registered owner, have the right document ready before you apply: a signed lease contract, an employer's confirmation for a company car or a copy of the vognkort for a co-owned car.
What may differ
Students get a permit for one semester at a time but pay the same price. Hydrogen cars, electric vans and cars with an HC card need no permit and park free in residents' spaces. For a foreign-registered car you must attach a copy of the full registration document (vognkort).
Common misconception
A residents' parking permit gives you your own parking space outside your home.
What actually happens
The City of Oslo states that the permit does not give a right to a reserved space; you park wherever there is a free residents' space in your zone.
