Short answer

A Ruter single ticket starts when you activate it and is valid for 60 minutes in one zone, with 30 extra minutes for each additional zone. It must be active before you board or enter a control zone. You can change between buses, trams, the metro and ferries as long as time remains when you board.

Why

  1. Ruter's ticket rules say a single ticket for one zone is valid for 60 minutes from activation, and the validity increases by 30 minutes for each extra zone.
  2. Ruter's transport regulations require an electronic ticket to be activated when you board or before you enter a control zone.
  3. A ticket bought in the app gives you the right to board once the countdown in the app has started.

Details

In 2026 a single ticket for one zone costs NOK 46 for adults, NOK 23 for seniors and NOK 19 for children aged 6–17, while children under 6 travel free. If you buy a single ticket on board a bus or boat, there is a surcharge of NOK 20 for adults and NOK 10 for children and seniors. Tickets are not sold on board trams or the metro.

Tip

Activate the ticket in the Ruter app just before you board, not while you wait for a late bus, since the 60 minutes start at activation.

What may differ

Period tickets, such as the 30-day ticket, follow their own validity period, and no Ruter ticket is valid on Flytoget, the airport express train.

Common misconception

You can wait to activate a mobile ticket until you see a ticket inspector.

What actually happens

Ruter's transport regulations say an electronic ticket must already be active when you board or before you enter a control zone.
