What does Ruter zone 1 cover in Oslo?
Zone 1, ticket validity and the Ruter zone map.
Short answer
Ruter's zone 1 covers the city of Oslo, and the whole Oslo metro (T-bane) network lies inside it, so one zone 1 ticket works across the city. A single adult ticket for zone 1 costs NOK 46 and lasts 60 minutes, and you can change between bus, tram, metro, ferry and Vy trains in the zone while it is valid.
Why
- Ruter states that the entire metro network is in zone 1, and its price list names the zone 'Sone 1 (Oslo)'.
- A single ticket for one zone is valid for 60 minutes from activation, and each extra zone adds 30 minutes.
- The rest of Ruter's area in Akershus is split into zones such as 2V, 2Ø and 2S, and the price depends on how many zones you travel through.
Details
Ruter tickets are valid on Ruter's buses, trams, metro and ferries and on Vy's trains in Oslo and Akershus. You do not need to work out the zones yourself: enter where you travel from and to in Ruter's journey planner or app, and it calculates them for you. Ruter's page on zones and zone maps shows a zone map of Oslo and Akershus and a separate map for the boats in the Oslofjord.
Tip
Buy the ticket in the Ruter app before you board: a single ticket bought on a bus or boat costs adults NOK 20 extra.
What may differ
No Ruter tickets are valid on Flytoget, the airport express train, so a zone 1 ticket does not cover it.
