How does public transport in Stavanger work?
Zones, prices, apps and paying on board.
Short answer
Stavanger's public transport is run by Kolumbus, and an adult single ticket for one zone costs NOK 49, is valid for 60 minutes and covers buses and local trains. Buy it in the Kolumbus Billett app, at ticket machines or on board, where paying cash costs adults NOK 20 extra. Children under six travel free.
Why
- Kolumbus divides Rogaland into five zones, and the price depends on how many zones you travel through: an adult single costs NOK 87 for two zones and NOK 125 for three to five.
- A single ticket is valid for 60 minutes in the zone where it is bought, plus 30 minutes for each extra zone, on all Kolumbus buses and local trains around the clock.
- Kolumbus has two apps: Kolumbus Billett for ordinary tickets and the Kolumbus app for travel planning, journey guidance and a new distance-based way to pay.
Details
Children, students and seniors pay NOK 25 for one zone. Tickets are also sold in the Entur, Vy and Go-Ahead apps and at Stavanger station. With the distance-based solution in the Kolumbus app, you register your trips, pay only for the journeys you make, and the account is charged the night after you travel.
Tip
Buy the ticket in the app before you board: the on-board cash surcharge is NOK 20 for adults, and people entitled to a senior discount are exempt.
What may differ
Single tickets are also valid on the Vassøy ferry and the express ferry to Byøyene and Hommersåk, except night sailings. In the local zones in Haugesund and Egersund, a single ticket costs NOK 28 for everyone.
