Which taxi apps work in Norway?
Uber, Bolt, taxi company apps and the Vy app.
Short answer
Uber and Bolt work in Oslo and Trondheim, nationwide taxi companies such as Norgestaxi have their own apps, and the Vy app books taxis in many regions. Local companies have apps too: Oslo Taxi uses Taxifix, and TrønderTaxi has its own app in Trondheim. You can also book by phone, for example Norgestaxi on 08000.
Why
- Norgestaxi calls itself one of Norway's largest nationwide taxi companies, with cars in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Ålesund, Drammen, Kongsberg, Bodø and Tromsø.
- Vy says the taxi service in its app covers most of Oslo and most of Trøndelag, plus places such as Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand and Tromsø.
- Uber's pages for Oslo and Trondheim say you can request a ride 24/7, and Bolt lists ride services in both cities.
Details
In Oslo, Oslo Taxi takes bookings on 02323 and in its Taxifix app. In Trondheim, TrønderTaxi takes bookings in its app and online and lists 07373 as its main number. Taxi drivers in Norway need a driver's permit (kjøreseddel), which requires being at least 20 and having held a driving licence for two years in a row.
Tip
Check which cities an app covers before you rely on it, since coverage outside the largest cities varies.
What may differ
In smaller towns Uber and Bolt may not be available, so check the Vy app's list of places or call a local taxi company.
