Is there Uber or Bolt in Oslo?

Uber, Bolt, local taxi apps and driver rules.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

Both Uber and Bolt operate in Oslo: Uber says you can request a ride around the city 24/7, and Bolt offers rides to and from Oslo's airports. Bolt lists ride types such as Comfort, XL and Electric and also offers e-bikes and scooters. Licensed taxi companies such as Oslo Taxi and Norgestaxi take bookings in their own apps.

Why

  1. Uber's Oslo page states that you can request a ride to get around Oslo 24/7, and lists UberXL for groups of up to 6.
  2. Bolt's Oslo page lists the ride types Bolt, Comfort, Premium, XL, Pets and Electric, as well as on-demand e-bikes and electric scooters.
  3. Taxi drivers in Norway need a driver's permit (kjøreseddel): they must be at least 20, have held a driving licence for two years in a row and show taxi driver competence.

Details

Oslo Taxi takes bookings on 02323 and in its Taxifix app, and Norgestaxi on 08000 and in the Norgestaxi app. The Vy app can also book taxis in most of Oslo.

Tip

Open both apps before you book and compare the fare each one quotes for the same trip.

What may differ

Outside Oslo, check which cities each app covers: Uber and Bolt both list Trondheim, for example.
