Where can I see a 5G and 4G coverage map for Norway?
Operator maps, 5G figures and where coverage is weakest.
Short answer
Telenor, Telia and Ice, the three operators with their own mobile network in Norway, each publish a coverage map where you can check the signal before you travel. Telia's map shows both 4G and 5G, but Telia notes that it is based on theoretical calculations. According to Nkom, more than 99 percent of households had basic 5G coverage by mid-2024.
Why
- The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) found that 98.4 percent of households had 4G or 5G coverage of at least 30 Mbit/s at the end of the first half of 2024.
- In the same survey, basic 5G coverage reached 60.8 percent of Norway's area, while 4G or 5G together reached about 83.8 percent.
- Ice has an agreement with Telenor that gives its customers coverage in areas where Ice has not finished building its own network.
Details
Nkom's page on mobile coverage links to the maps of all three operators. Telenor states that 99.98 percent of the population has Telenor coverage where they live and that its network covers 86 percent of the country's area. Telenor has already switched off its 3G network.
Tip
Check the map of the network your SIM card actually uses, and look at the exact place you are going rather than the nearest town.
What may differ
The maps are a guide, not a guarantee, as Telenor puts it, and Telia points out that indoor coverage depends a lot on what walls, windows and doors are made of.
