Gigabit access, fibre and mobile speeds in figures.

Short answer

Fixed internet in Norway averaged a download speed of 167 Mbit/s in 2025, according to Nkom's Nettfart measurements, and over 96 percent of households can get gigabit broadband. Over 99 percent can get at least 100 Mbit/s, and 78.5 percent are connected to fibre. Mobile 4G and 5G also cover almost all homes.

Why

  1. The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) reported in May 2026 that 96.3 percent of households in Norway have access to internet at gigabit speed.
  2. Nkom's coverage survey for 2025 found that 92.1 percent of households can get fibre, and 78.5 percent have connected to the fibre network.
  3. On mobile networks, Nkom found that 83.9 percent of households had 4G or 5G coverage of at least 100 Mbit/s at the end of the first half of 2024.

Details

These figures describe what can be installed, not the speed a household actually pays for, which depends on the subscription. In 2025, 36.7 percent of households had fibre offers from two or more providers. On mobile, Telenor notes that large buildings or hilly terrain can stop speeds from reaching their peak.

Tip

To see what your own connection delivers, run Nkom's speed test at Nettfart.no, and when renting a flat or cabin, ask which speed the subscription includes.

What may differ

Speeds are lower in sparsely populated areas: there, access to gigabit speed rose from 70.4 percent in 2022 to 82.9 percent in 2025.
