Where can I buy a prepaid SIM card in Norway?
Shops, prices, ID rules and top-up for Telia and Telenor prepaid.
Short answer
Telia sells prepaid starter packs at Narvesen, 7-Eleven and selected grocery stores for NOK 29, and in Telia shops, Power and Elkjøp for NOK 99. The NOK 99 pack includes free calls and texts and 250 MB of data for 14 days. Telia asks for BankID, but people without it can buy the starter pack in a Telia shop.
Why
- Nkom states that you must show valid ID, such as a passport, national ID card or driving licence, when you take out a subscription with a provider.
- Telenor's prepaid card is ordered on Mine Sider or in the Mitt Telenor app, and Telenor says it works with eSIM.
- A Telenor prepaid card stays valid for 12 months after the last top-up, and top-up cards are sold in most grocery stores, petrol stations and kiosks.
Details
Telia's NOK 29 pack comes with NOK 30 of credit. Telia Kontant data packages of 3, 7, 12, 20 or 50 GB last 31 days, and you top up in the Telia app or at telia.no/lade with Vipps or a bank card. Telenor's pay-as-you-go prices are NOK 0.99 a minute for calls and NOK 20 a day for data, and the speed drops to 128 kbit/s after 1 GB in a month.
Tip
If you do not have BankID, go straight to a Telia shop rather than a kiosk, since Telia says that is where you can buy the pack without it.
What may differ
Visitors with a plan from an EU or EEA country can use it in Norway at home prices, so they may not need a Norwegian SIM card at all.
