Will my US phone work in Norway (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T)?
Roaming with Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, and 4G calling in Norway.
Short answer
A US phone can be used in Norway: Verizon lists Norway at $12 a day with TravelPass, and T-Mobile includes Norway in its international roaming benefit. T-Mobile's Experience plans include 5 or 15 GB of high-speed data abroad, with calls at $0.50 a minute. Telenor has already switched off 3G, so check that your phone supports 4G calling (VoLTE).
Why
- Verizon's list of TravelPass countries shows Norway at $12 per day.
- T-Mobile lists Norway among the destinations included with its international roaming benefit, and calls are charged at $0.50 a minute.
- Telenor says it has already switched off 3G and will close 2G on 31 December 2027, after which a phone needs 4G calling to make and receive calls.
Details
T-Mobile also sells International Passes, for example 15 GB of high-speed data and unlimited calling for up to 10 days at $50. AT&T offers an International Day Pass at $12 a day in more than 210 destinations, so check that Norway is on its list before you rely on it. If your phone accepts other SIM cards, a Norwegian prepaid card or a travel eSIM is another option.
Tip
Turn on Wi-Fi calling before you leave: T-Mobile says there is no charge for Wi-Fi calls from abroad to the US, Canada or Mexico.
What may differ
An older phone without 4G calling may still connect to Telenor's 2G network until it closes on 31 December 2027, but after that it will not be able to make calls on Telenor's network.
