How do I find the IBAN for my Norwegian bank account?
Where banks show the IBAN, its format and the BIC.
Short answer
You find the IBAN for your Norwegian account in your bank's online bank or app under the account details, and also on your account statement. A Norwegian IBAN has 15 characters: NO, two check digits and your 11-digit account number. The BIC depends on the bank, for example DNBANOKKXXX for DNB and NDEANOKK for Nordea.
Why
- Nordea shows the IBAN on the account statement, in the mobile bank under Kontoopplysninger and in the online bank under Vis kontoopplysninger.
- In SpareBank 1's online bank you choose the account and click Kontoinnstillinger, and in the mobile bank you tap the gear icon at the top.
- The SWIFT IBAN registry sets the length of a Norwegian IBAN at 15 characters, with NO9386011117947 as its example.
Details
DNB shows the IBAN on your account statement and in the online bank under the account terms and conditions, and it offers an IBAN calculator. Handelsbanken lists the IBAN under account details in the online bank. When someone abroad pays you, DNB says they need your IBAN, the bank's BIC and the name and address on the account.
Tip
If you cannot log in to the online bank yet, SpareBank 1's website lets you look up an IBAN by entering your account number.
What may differ
In the SpareBank 1 alliance the BIC differs from bank to bank, so check the code for your own SpareBank 1 bank.
