How do I get from Bergen to Lofoten?

Flights via Bodø, summer direct flights and the sea route.

Short answer

From Bergen you can fly to Bodø and continue to Lofoten by plane or ferry, fly direct with Widerøe in summer, or take the coastal ship. Widerøe flies from Bodø to Svolvær and Leknes several times a day, and the car ferry from Bodø to Moskenes takes about 3.5 hours.

Why

  1. Visit Lofoten states that Widerøe has direct flights from Oslo Airport and Bergen Airport to Lofoten during the summer season.
  2. Northern Norway's tourist board lists Widerøe direct flights from Bergen to Bodø, the main hub for onward travel to Lofoten.
  3. On Hurtigruten's northbound route, the ship leaves Bergen in the evening and calls at Stamsund and then Svolvær on day 4.

Details

Lofoten has three airports of its own, including Svolvær and Leknes. Another option is to fly to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes, 170 km from Svolvær, and drive for about two and a half hours. Rental cars are available at both Evenes and Bodø.

Tip

If you take the car ferry from Bodø in summer, book a day ahead, as Visit Lofoten advises because of the heavy traffic.

What may differ

Outside the summer season there are no direct Widerøe flights from Bergen to Lofoten, so you change planes or switch to the ferry in Bodø.
