Is there a free shopping bus from Oslo to Sweden (Nordby, Svinesund)?

How to reach Nordby and Svinesund from Oslo by public transport.

Short answer

Nordby Shoppingcenter's own travel page lists no free bus from Oslo and suggests the train from Oslo S to Halden, then bus line 111 to the centre. Line 111 runs between Halden, Svinesund and Blomsholm, and on board you pay by card, as the bus is cashless. The Nordby stop is right next to the centre.

Why

  1. Nordby's directions page tells travellers from Oslo to take the train from Oslo S to Halden and continue on Gränspendeln line 111 to Nordby.
  2. Visit West Sweden lists line 111 as Blomsholm, Svinesund and Halden (Norway), with timetables and tickets from Västtrafik.
  3. Nordby says tickets on line 111 are bought on board with a card, as the bus does not take cash, and that some trips are run by TIMEkspressen with other ticket rules.

Details

Thon's page for the centre says the Nordby bus stop is right next to the centre and that Svinesund is a 7-minute drive away. Nordby lists opening hours of 10:00–20:00 on weekdays and 10:00–19:00 at weekends, with the food shops open 08:00–22:00 every day.

Tip

Check line 111 departures in Västtrafik's journey planner or the Västtrafik To Go app before you leave Oslo, and match them with the train times to Halden on vy.no.

What may differ

If you drive, Nordby is signposted through the roundabouts about 2 km after the Svinesund bridge, and Thon lists 3,750 parking spaces with free parking for up to 3 hours.
