Can I take the DFDS ferry as a foot passenger or on a mini cruise?

Who runs the ferry between Oslo and Copenhagen now and how the mini cruise works.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

DFDS no longer runs the ferry between Oslo and Copenhagen: since 1 November 2024 Go Nordic Cruiseline sails it, also for foot passengers and mini cruises. Ships leave both cities at 16:30 and arrive at 10:00 the next morning. A MiniCruise is a return trip with two nights on board.

Why

  1. Go Nordic Cruiseline says its owner Gotlandsbolaget took over the route between Copenhagen and Oslo on 1 November 2024.
  2. Visit Oslo says the ships Nordic Crown and Nordic Pearl sail daily and the crossing takes about 17 hours.
  3. Go Nordic Cruiseline describes its MiniCruise as a return journey with two nights on board and 6.5 hours in port.

Details

In Oslo the ships use the terminal at Akershusstranda 31, and in Copenhagen the terminal at Dampfærgevej 30, where a shuttle bus runs to Nørreport and Copenhagen Central Station. MiniCruise prices are dynamic: from Copenhagen it was advertised from DKK 286 per person with two sharing a cabin, and dinner is included.

Tip

Book online: Go Nordic Cruiseline charges a DKK 150 service fee for bookings made by phone or at the terminal.

What may differ

In 2027, while Nordic Pearl is in dock, Go Nordic Cruiseline will sail only every other day, so check the sailing schedule before you plan a mini cruise.

Common misconception

DFDS still runs the ferry between Oslo and Copenhagen.

What actually happens

DFDS sold the route to the Swedish company Gotlandsbolaget, and since 1 November 2024 it has been sailed by Go Nordic Cruiseline.
