Which ferries go from Norway to Denmark?
Which companies sail to Hirtshals and Copenhagen, from which Norwegian ports.
Short answer
Fjord Line and Color Line sail from Norway to Hirtshals in Denmark, and Go Nordic Cruiseline sails overnight between Oslo and Copenhagen. Fjord Line leaves from Bergen, Stavanger and Kristiansand, and Color Line from Kristiansand and Larvik. From Stavanger the crossing to Hirtshals takes about 11 hours.
Why
- Fjord Line offers car crossings from Hirtshals to Kristiansand, Stavanger and Bergen, and sails daily all year between Bergen, Stavanger and Hirtshals.
- Color Line runs the routes between Hirtshals and Larvik and between Hirtshals and Kristiansand, as well as a daily route from Oslo to Kiel in Germany.
- Go Nordic Cruiseline has run the Oslo and Copenhagen route since Gotlandsbolaget took it over on 1 November 2024, with departures at 16:30 and arrival at 10:00.
Details
In Stavanger the Fjord Line ferry docks at Risavika, south-west of the centre, and a bus runs there for passengers without a car. The crossing between Oslo and Copenhagen takes about 17 hours. Go Nordic Cruiseline says that for a period in 2027, while Nordic Pearl is in dock, there will only be departures every other day.
Tip
Choose the port nearest to where you start: Bergen or Stavanger in the west, Kristiansand or Larvik in the south, and Oslo if you want to arrive in Copenhagen.
What may differ
Departure times and the number of sailings vary by route and season, so check the ferry company's timetable for your date.
Common misconception
Stena Line still sails from Oslo to Frederikshavn.
What actually happens
Stena Line's own page on travel to Norway lists no routes that call at a Norwegian port; its Danish route runs from Gothenburg in Sweden to Frederikshavn.
