When does the ferry between Gryllefjord and Andenes run, and do I need to book?
Summer season, departures, fares and why you should arrive early.
Short answer
The Gryllefjord-Andenes ferry is a summer route that runs from mid-May to late September, and you cannot book a place in advance. In 2026 it ran from 13 May to 27 September, with two or three departures a day each way. Arrive early, as cars are often left behind in high season.
Why
- Svipper, the public transport service in Troms, runs the crossing as route 180, and its 2026 timetable was valid from 13 May to 27 September.
- Svipper states that it is not possible to pre-book a place on board the ferry and recommends arriving early.
- Visit Senja writes that in high season it is common to miss one or more departures, especially in Gryllefjord.
Details
In 2026 the ferry left Andenes at 08:45 and 17:00 and Gryllefjord at 11:00 and 19:00, with an extra departure at 13:00 from Andenes and 15:00 from Gryllefjord between 15 June and 23 August. Vehicles pay with AutoPASS for ferry or a FerryPay account. From 15 June 2026 adult passengers, including foot passengers and cyclists, paid NOK 100, while children and seniors travelled free; tickets were sold in the Svipper app, the Entur app, on entur.no and on board.
Tip
Before you drive to the quay, open the map at kart.svipper.no: since 1 July 2026 it shows live queue information for route 180, based on cameras that count waiting vehicles.
What may differ
