What are Norwegian CashPoints, and how do I use them?
What CashPoints are worth, how to pay with them and what changed with Spenn.
Short answer
CashPoints are the bonus currency of Norwegian Reward, where one CashPoint is worth NOK 1 and can be used to pay for Norwegian and Widerøe tickets. You choose CashPoints as the payment method at checkout. Members in the Nordic countries now earn Spenn on flights instead, but CashPoints still come from partners and the Bank Norwegian card.
Why
- Norwegian states that 1 CashPoint equals NOK 1 and that you can use them on all its flights, to all destinations and dates, with no minimum amount, but not on taxes and fees.
- CashPoints are valid for the rest of the year you earned them plus two more years, according to Norwegian Reward's FAQ.
- Membership of Norwegian Reward is free, and members can still earn CashPoints with the Bank Norwegian card, hotel bookings, car rental and other selected partners.
Details
Besides tickets, CashPoints can pay for extras such as extra baggage, seat reservation, Fast Track, Priority Boarding and flight changes. Spenn are flexible points earned on Norwegian and commercial Widerøe flights and at partners such as Strawberry, REMA 1000, Narvesen, 7-Eleven and Uno-X. Unlike a CashPoint, a Spenn point has no fixed value in kroner: Norwegian says the value depends on what you use it for. Spenn are valid for three years from the end of the month they reach your account.
Tip
Use older CashPoints first and keep an eye on the expiry: points from gift cards last only until the end of the year after purchase, which is shorter than for ordinary CashPoints.
What may differ
Members who remove Spenn from their Reward profile go back to earning CashPoints on flights. Gold members keep their points without expiry for as long as they meet the requirement of 32 flights in 12 months.
Common misconception
Old CashPoints were turned into Spenn when Spenn arrived.
What actually happens
Norwegian says CashPoints cannot be converted to Spenn. You can still use your CashPoints on Norwegian and Widerøe tickets until they expire.
