How do I get to the North Cape?
Flights via Alta or Honningsvåg, buses, coastal ships and winter convoys.
Short answer
The North Cape lies at the end of the E69, about 34 km from Honningsvåg, and you reach it by car, by bus or on a coastal ship excursion. From Oslo you can fly to Alta and drive about 3.5 hours, or fly to Honningsvåg via Tromsø or Alta. In winter the last stretch is driven in convoy.
Why
- Honningsvåg Airport is 32 km from the North Cape, while Alta Airport has more direct flights, including from Oslo.
- Hurtigruten calls at Honningsvåg twice a day, and both calls offer an excursion to the North Cape, according to Visit Norway.
- Daily buses run from Honningsvåg to the North Cape in summer, and in winter a daily bus follows a snowplough, although it is cancelled more often than other routes.
Details
Bus 110 links Honningsvåg and Alta in about 3.5 hours with a change in Olderfjord, and Snelandia publishes current times and prices. The drive from Honningsvåg to the plateau takes roughly 30–40 minutes. The North Cape Hall is open all year, weather permitting, and an adult ticket costs NOK 360. The midnight sun lasts from 14 May to 29 July.
Tip
In winter, check the convoy times and road status on vegvesen.no before you drive from Honningsvåg, and contact the North Cape Hall in advance if you plan an evening visit.
