How much liquid can I take in my hand luggage on flights from Norway?

The 100 ml rule, the 1-litre bag and the exceptions for medicine and baby food.

Short answer

At Avinor's airports in Norway, liquids in hand luggage must be in containers of up to 100 ml, packed in one transparent bag of up to 1 litre. Containers larger than 100 ml are not allowed, even if they are only partly full. Liquid medicines and necessary baby food are exempt from the 100 ml rule.

Why

  1. Avinor states that containers holding more than 100 ml are not allowed, regardless of how much liquid they contain.
  2. Only one 1-litre bag is allowed per traveller, and Avinor hands out free bags before security screening.
  3. In December 2025 Avinor said the 100 ml rule, introduced in 2006, still applies, although new screening technology is on the way.

Details

Liquid medicines do not need to go in the 1-litre bag. Frozen liquids still count as liquids, and Avinor also treats foods such as yogurt, cream cheese, jam and honey as liquids. You can take an empty water bottle through security and fill it on the other side.

Tip

Pack perfume, creams or bottles over 100 ml in checked baggage, but check your airline first, as not all airlines allow bottles in checked luggage.

What may differ

Norwegian notes that restrictions may vary depending on the airport you fly from, so check that airport's website. Tax-free liquids over 100 ml bought at the airport are packed in a sealed bag, which can be opened for checks.
