How long does the Moss to Horten ferry take, and what does it cost?
Crossing time, 2026 prices, AutoPASS discounts and payment.
Short answer
The ferry between Moss and Horten takes about 30 minutes, and in 2026 a car up to 6 metres costs NOK 304 at full price, while passengers travel free. An AutoPASS tag gives 10 percent off, or 30 percent with a separate Moss-Horten prepayment agreement. You cannot book a place in advance.
Why
- Torghatten's price table for the route gives NOK 304 for a vehicle up to 6 metres and NOK 114 for a motorcycle, including 12 percent VAT.
- Visit Norway's listing says the crossing takes 30 minutes and that you only pay for the vehicle, as passengers travel free.
- Horten to Moss on Rv. 19 is one of the 16 ferry routes that Statens vegvesen is directly responsible for.
Details
On weekdays the ferries run frequently between 04:45 and 23:45, according to Visit Norway. You can pay by card or cash at the manual gate, but FerryPay and Epass24 cannot be used on this route. Vehicles wider than 2.6 metres pay double, and for longer vehicles and cars with trailers the price follows the total length, including a bike rack.
Tip
If you cross often, a Moss-Horten agreement with an AutoPASS tag cuts the price by 30 percent; for a single trip you can simply pay by card at the manual gate.
What may differ
Electric and hydrogen cars get a zero-emission price; foreign-registered cars pay full price unless their fuel class is registered, and can show an Epass24 registration at the manual gate.
