How big and heavy can my hand luggage be on Norwegian, and how strict are they?

Sizes, weight per fare type, what else you may bring and how the rules are applied.

Short answer

On Norwegian, LowFare includes only an underseat bag of 30x40x20 cm, while LowFare+ and Flex add an overhead bag of 55x40x23 cm. The weight limit is 10 kg in total on LowFare and LowFare+ and 15 kg on Flex. Norwegian tells passengers to measure their bags and stresses that the combined weight counts.

Why

  1. Norwegian's hand baggage page gives the underseat bag as 30x40x20 cm and the overhead bag as 55x40x23 cm.
  2. LowFare has a maximum of 10 kg, LowFare+ a combined limit of 10 kg and Flex a combined limit of 15 kg.
  3. Norwegian advertises savings of up to 50 % when you add extra baggage online before check-in, and warns of higher rates at the airport.

Details

Everyone may also bring one bag of airport shopping on top of the allowance. Medicine, baby items and valuables should go in the underseat bag. You can carry an item such as a gift box instead of a standard bag, as long as it stays within the limits, and Norwegian keeps a separate list of items that are not allowed in the cabin.

Tip

If your bag is close to the limit, add baggage online before check-in instead of risking a charge at the airport, where Norwegian says rates are higher.

What may differ

The allowance depends on the fare type you bought, not on the route, so check which ticket is on your booking before you pack.

Common misconception

Every Norwegian ticket includes a standard cabin suitcase.

What actually happens

Only LowFare+ and Flex include an overhead bag of 55x40x23 cm. LowFare includes just a small bag that fits under the seat.
