Which Ruter zone is Oslo Airport in, and can I use a Ruter ticket to get there?

Zones, Vy trains, Flybussen and why Flytoget needs its own ticket.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

Oslo Airport lies outside Ruter's zone 1, and a Ruter ticket for all the zones you pass is valid on Vy trains to the airport, but not on Flytoget. Flybussen routes from Oslo run through zones 1, 2Ø and 4N, so a zone 1 ticket covers only part of the trip. Activate the ticket before you board.

Why

  1. Ruter states that its tickets can be used on Ruter's buses, trams, metro and boats and on Vy's trains in Oslo and Akershus.
  2. Ruter also states that no Ruter tickets are valid on Flytoget, not even period tickets for all zones.
  3. For Flybussen, Ruter says tickets valid only for part of the journey, meaning zones 1, 2Ø and/or 4N, give a discount equal to one single ticket.

Details

An adult single ticket for one zone costs NOK 46 and is valid for 60 minutes, and each extra zone adds 30 minutes. Ruter tickets are also valid on Vy's express bus VY15 between Feiring, Gardermoen and Oslo. On 15 October 2026 Avinor reported that a train drivers' strike was affecting train services to and from the airport, while Flytoget ran as normal.

Tip

Enter Oslo lufthavn as your destination in the Ruter app, and it will work out the zones and the price for you.

What may differ

The Oslo Pass covers zones 1, 2, 3, 4V and 4N and is valid on Vy local trains to Oslo Airport, but not on Flytoget or Flybussen.

Common misconception

A Ruter ticket for all zones works on every train to the airport.

What actually happens

Flytoget is not part of Ruter's ticket system, so you need a separate Flytoget ticket even with a period ticket for all zones.
