Is there a ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen, and how does it work?
Departure times, terminals, cabins and what happened to DFDS on the route.
Short answer
Yes, Go Nordic Cruiseline sails daily between Oslo and Copenhagen, leaving at 16:30 and arriving at 10:00 the next morning in both directions. It is an overnight cruise ferry with cabins, restaurants and a tax-free shop, and you can bring a car. DFDS ran the route until Gotlandsbolaget took over on 1 November 2024.
Why
- Go Nordic Cruiseline's sailing schedule lists departures at 16:30 from both Copenhagen and Oslo, with arrival at 10:00.
- Gotlandsbolaget took over the route between Copenhagen and Oslo on 1 November 2024, and the two ships are called Nordic Crown and Nordic Pearl.
- Visit Oslo puts the crossing between the two capitals at about 17 hours.
Details
In Oslo the ships use Oslo Terminal at Akershusstranda 31, and in Copenhagen the terminal is at Dampfærgevej 30, with a shuttle bus to Nørreport and Copenhagen Central Station. Both terminals are open 09:00–16:30. The one-way fares on Go Nordic's site include an overnight stay in a cabin, and your travel confirmation shows the exact check-in times.
Tip
Check the dates before you plan a trip in 2027: while Nordic Pearl is in dock in January and in late October to November, there are departures only every other day.
What may differ
Some dates have no sailing at all, for example 4 and 6 January 2027 from Copenhagen and 5 and 6 January 2027 from Oslo.
Common misconception
DFDS still runs the ferry between Oslo and Copenhagen.
What actually happens
DFDS sold the route to the Swedish company Gotlandsbolaget, which has run it as Go Nordic Cruiseline since 1 November 2024.
