How do I get from Oslo to Lofoten?

Flights via Bodø or Evenes, summer direct flights, train and ferries.

Short answer

From Oslo you reach Lofoten by flying to Bodø or Evenes and continuing by plane, ferry or car, or by taking Widerøe's direct summer flights. From Bodø, Widerøe flies to Svolvær and Leknes several times a day, and the ferry to Moskenes takes about 3.5 hours. Evenes is 170 km from Svolvær, about two and a half hours by car.

Why

  1. Norwegian flies direct every day from Oslo Gardermoen to Bodø and to Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes, and SAS also flies from Oslo to both airports.
  2. Lofoten has three airports and Norway's only commercial helicopter route, from Bodø to Værøy.
  3. The Nordland Line from Trondheim to Bodø is 729 km long and takes around ten hours, with two departures a day each way, one of them a night train.

Details

By train, you travel from Oslo to Trondheim and then on the Nordland Line to Bodø, where the ferry to Moskenes takes both cars and foot passengers. Drivers coming from the south of Norway most often take the Bognes-Lødingen ferry. The Skutvik-Svolvær ferry runs only in summer, from 1 June to 31 August.

Tip

Flying Norwegian to Bodø and on to Svolvær or Leknes with Widerøe? Book both flights together on norwegian.com or wideroe.no so they are in one booking.

What may differ

Widerøe's direct flights from Oslo and Bergen to Lofoten run only in the summer season. In winter, allow more time for the drive from Evenes.
