What is the difference between standard seats and Plus or Komfort on Norwegian trains?
Plus on Vy, Premium on SJ, Ekstra on Go-Ahead, and what you get.
Short answer
On Vy's Bergen Line, Plus is the upgrade from a standard seat, with a more comfortable seat, a power outlet and free coffee or tea throughout the journey. On SJ trains on the Dovre and Nordland lines the upgrades are called Premium and Premium Pluss. Go-Ahead calls its upgrade on the Sørland Line Ekstra.
Why
- Vy says Plus seats are more comfortable, have headrests and a power outlet, and that Plus passengers can drink as much free coffee or tea as they want.
- SJ's Premium Pluss on the Dovre and Nordland lines has seats that recline up to 45 degrees, a reading light, and water, fruit and hot drinks included.
- Go-Ahead sells an upgrade called Ekstra on the Sørland Line and, on selected departures, a reclining seat called Hvile.
Details
The Bergen Line ticket list on Vy's site has no ticket called first class: Plus is the closest, and night trains also offer PlusNight with lie-flat seats and Sleeper or Rest tickets with a bed in a compartment. SJ's Premium is a quieter carriage with snacks and hot drinks included. Komfort is not among the ticket names on the Vy, SJ and Go-Ahead pages checked for this answer.
Tip
Plus makes most sense on long trips such as Oslo to Bergen, which takes about seven hours; compare the price difference for your date in the Vy app or Entur before you book.
