Where is Torp Airport, and why is it called Oslo Torp?
Location, the TRF code, the Oslo name and transport to Oslo.
Short answer
Torp Airport (TRF) lies in Sandefjord, about 110 km south of Oslo, and the Oslo name is a marketing label from the late 1990s. Ryanair began flying there in 1997 and sold the airport as Oslo South, later Oslo Torp. Today it is called TORP Sandefjord Airport, and the trip to central Oslo takes about an hour and a half.
Why
- Torp's own website gives the airport code TRF and the address Torpveien 130, 3241 Sandefjord.
- The airport lies about 7 km north-east of Sandefjord and about 110 km south of Oslo, close to the E18 motorway.
- The first Ryanair flight left Torp on 3 November 1997, and calling the airport Oslo caused a heated debate after IATA placed it under the Oslo area code in 1998.
Details
Torp-Ekspressen runs from the airport to Oslo bus terminal in about an hour and a half without changes. By train, a shuttle bus takes about 4 minutes between the terminal and Torp station, and the ticket costs NOK 55. From Torp station, Vy trains take about an hour and a half to central Oslo and continue to Oslo Airport Gardermoen.
Tip
Check whether your ticket says TRF or OSL: Oslo Airport Gardermoen is a different airport, so plan the transfer from the right one.
What may differ
Trains can be cancelled at short notice: on 15 October 2026 Vy listed the RE11 line between Skien and Eidsvoll, which serves Torp station, among services hit by an ongoing train drivers' strike.
Common misconception
