How much is one Norwegian krone in US dollars, euros or pounds?
Where to find the official rate and why yours may differ.
Short answer
The krone has no fixed value in dollars, euros or pounds, so check Norges Bank's daily reference rates, published at about 16:00 CET. Norway has had a floating exchange rate since 29 March 2001. These rates are only an indication and do not bind any bank, so the rate your bank or card provider uses may differ.
Why
- Norges Bank's rates are the midpoint between buying and selling rates in the interbank market at a given time.
- A formal inflation target and a floating exchange rate were introduced on 29 March 2001, so the krone is not pegged to the euro or the dollar.
- Norges Bank states that its exchange rates are only an indication and are not binding on Norges Bank or other banks.
Details
To see today's figure, open the exchange rate page on norges-bank.no and choose USD, EUR or GBP. The same page lets you download the rates. For a card payment or cash withdrawal, the rate that counts is the one your own bank or card provider applies.
Tip
If a card terminal or cash machine in Norway offers to charge you in your home currency, choose kroner: DNB's travel advice is that paying in the local currency gives a better price.
