How do you pay a bill in Norwegian online banking?
Steps, KID number, eFaktura, AvtaleGiro and paper giros.
Short answer
In Norwegian online banking you pay a bill by choosing a new payment, entering the account number, KID number, amount and due date, and approving it. With eFaktura the bill arrives already filled in, and nothing is taken from your account until you confirm it. AvtaleGiro pays regular bills automatically.
Why
- Nordea's guide lists the steps: go to Betalinger in the top menu, choose Ny betaling, fill in the fields and approve the payment.
- DNB explains that eFaktura bills arrive ready filled in and are not charged until you confirm them in the online bank, the mobile bank or by SMS.
- AvtaleGiro is an agreement between you and the payee for automatic payment, with a maximum amount the payee can charge your account.
Details
Nordea advises typing the KID and account numbers by hand, without spaces, and the due date must be in the future. At Nordea, a payment that lacks funds is tried again for 5 days after the due date and then rejected. For money to reach the recipient before the weekend, Nordea's deadline is 14:30 on Friday.
Tip
To pay a paper giro, copy the account number and KID printed on it into a new payment, or scan it: in Vipps, for example, you photograph the bill and confirm the account, KID number and amount.
What may differ
If you do not use online banking, some banks offer other ways to pay. SpareBank 1 Lom og Skjåk, for example, has BrevGiro, where you send your bills to the bank by post.
